In the electronics world, the disc technology is now growing at a great speed. Blu-rays using blue laser technology are replacing DVDs with red user. The new term 'BD' stands for Blu-ray Disc, while the old term 'DVD' stands for Digital Versatile Disc. The new terminology has also entered our daily lives in a thunderous way.
If we look at Blu-ray vs. DVD, the blu-ray outweighs the DVD, in its advantages. The next-generation format BD has 5 times more storage capacity than the DVD format. A single layer has a capacity of 20GB and a dual layer has a capacity of 50GB. Blu-ray provides formats such as read-only or BD-ROM, rewritable or BD-RE and recordable or BD-R. You can run HD video for 9 hours in a dual-player. In addition to the usual codec's supported by DVD format, the dual-player supports DTS-HD, DTS Digital Surround and Dolby True HD audio codec's as well as SMPTE VC-1 and MPEG-4AVC video codes. Comparing the video bit rate, DVD has 9.8 Mbps whereas vide bit supports a maximum 40.0 Mbps.
Several leading companies such as Walt Disney, Warner Bros, Apple, Dell, LG and Sony are developing the new technology. Movies on BD are being released by many studios. The Blu-ray is compatible with both CD and DVD. Blu-ray supports high definition or HD video and provides high picture quality. DVD supports standard definition or SD and its storage capacity is not sufficient to suit HD. BD has several advantages to its credit. You can see the menu clearly while a movie is played in the background. Moreover, the BD menu system also allows you to easily jump from one section to another. Unlike DVD, BD has a hard-coating and is scratch resistant.
Realizing the advantages of Blu-Ray, many movie rentals have chosen the high definition disk and electronic retailers have already started selling Blu-ray players, replacing the HD DVD players. Blu-Ray has won the race and has clearly gained victory in its battle against DVD.

To put it in simple terms, just as a DVD player playing DVD's, a blu-ray player is also a device used to play blu-ray discs. A blu-ray displayer functions on a High Definition (HD) format with resolution six times that of digital sound, CD or a DVD. In a singly layer of Blu-Ray you can store 5.5 times that of a DVD, that is 25GB. A dual-layer has a capacity of 50GB. To play, you have to hook up the Blu-ray player to a TV with least composite video. If you have a high definition television, you can enjoy full sound and color from the blu-ray player. HD-TV comes in various types such as 720p or 480p, but 1080p or 1080i is a better choice.
You need not get rid of your favorite DVDs after you buy a blu-ray disc player. You can repurchase and play all your favorite DVDs as well as CDs in the device. In fact, by up converting the DVDs, they will play and looks much better then the DVD player itself. However, the converse is not true. You can not play a blue ray disc on a regular player. Since violet/ blue beam of lit is used by a blu-ray disc to read data, red laser of DVD players can not read the data. If you plan to watch or buy 1080P HD movies, you can upgrade you existing DVD to blu ray.
As blue laser is used to write and read the discs. Hence, it has been named as Blu ray technology. As the blu-rays light beam has a much shorter wavelength, you can install more data on a Blu-ray Disc device compared to a traditional DVD disc player burned with a red beam light. Your Blu-ray Disc can store around 6 times the data of a 2 layer DVD and more than 10 times that of a DVD. By putting all the necessary information you can get a clearer and better image on a single disc.

Panasonic started enthralling us long before the present-day titans came. This consumer electronic giant of past hasn't faded though even today.
Blue-ray technology
With Blue ray, High definition audio and video along with great storage capacity is automatically guaranteed. Yes, it depends upon a company to offer the virtues of science without distorting it. Panasonic does just that with DMPBD30K.
Upconvetibility
It uses PHL reference Chroma Processor with advanced Unifiers in the form of P4HD. These techniques allow it to bring images as the maker had conceived them in his cinematic mind. P4HD magically up scales the entire DVD content through HDMI ports; thus the images you get have all the brilliance of High-definition both in terms of audio and video.
SD card slot
It offers a SD card slot. This allows you to watch blu-ray compatible action on your HDTV. This way, the card slots marry two very beautiful inventions of science.
And to conclude
It offers EZ Sync HDACVI control; a one-touch formula for seeing everything through a single remote. With such great features in the line and extreme user-friendliness of the product, nothing seems like a hurdle for the sale brass of Panasonic DMPBD 30K.
